The Best Type of Fencing for Sports Fields

Sports fields have unique needs like keeping baseballs or footballs inside a boundary to protect spectators and assist players. Whether your company is building a football field, baseball diamond, or soccer field, Texas Fence and Iron is ready to assist you with choosing the right fencing for sports fields that will meet your needs.

Choosing the Right Fence Based on the Sport

Different sports have different needs, so installing the right fence is important to prevent injuries to both players and spectators. This guide will give you a bit or information regarding what type and height of fencing may be best for your sports field.

Baseball

Fencing for baseball fields is required to be six feet tall in the outfield by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), but eight feet tall is generally recommended. This keeps the ball inside the diamond, protecting spectators and allowing the game to continue. Additionally, fences should be sturdy and secure to not take damage from being hit by balls at high speeds.

For little league or youth sports, chain link fencing is generally a good option. Fencing for communal areas like this may not be as extensive, so installing a solid chain-link fence around the perimeter and in the dugouts is generally effective.

Football

While football fields differ widely from baseball fields, many of the requirements are the same. Installing a fence that is between 4 and 6 feet tall is a good outline. Football fields cover a larger area, so the risk of injury to spectators is much lower, but fencing is still required in many aspects.

Stands for spectators are often very high, so making sure that there is fencing around the back, sides, and front of the stands is essential. This prevents anyone from falling and getting injured. Additionally, fencing and gates around the perimeter are important to prevent unauthorized access during a game or after hours.
